The meeting of the Association of the Europe Prize Winning Towns - Klagenfurt

On October 20th, 2001 a meeting of the presidium of the Association of the Europe Prize Winning Towns was held in Klagenfurt (Austria). The meeting was attended by Mayors and representatives of the towns – presidium members: Bursa, Braunfels, Częstochowa, Darmstadt, Graz, Klagenfurt, Regensburg, St. Pölten, Udine and Vienna.

The Council of Europe was represented by Ms Joanna SCHICKER, member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe from Austria.

At first Chairman of the Association Mr Wiesław MARAS presented a report on the General Meeting of the Association in Regensburg, on giving the Prize of Europe to this year’s winner - the town of St. Pölten, Austria and the ceremony of handing over the honorary Flag of the Council of Europe to Altötting, where the Mayor of Częstochowa acted in the double role: of the Chairman of the Association and the Mayor of the City, for ten years twinned with Altötting.

During the working part of the meeting the following arrangements were made:

1) A schedule of cultural, sports and youth events for the year 2002 is to be prepared. Other Prize of Europe winning towns are welcome to take part in these events. Proposals are to be submitted by e-mail to:Paweł Klimek.
The proposals will be placed on the Association’s homepage: www.czestochowa.um.gov.pl/europeprize.
If any towns or cities, having their own homepages, want their links to be placed on the Association’s homepage, they are invited to send their webside addresses to the above e-mail address.

2) After a discussion the date of the General Meeting to be held in Bursa (Turkey) was established for 11th – 14th July, 2002. The conference in Bursa will be devoted to the subject of “Tourism and Safety in Historic Heritage Towns.”

3) The subject of the International Youth Forum is: “Chances of Education and Employment Opportunities for Young People in Europe”; the subject was proposed in writing by Linz;
The town of Bursa offered to invite 2 youth representatives aged 18 - 26 from each town or city. Costs of board and accommodation shall be covered by the host town, whereas travel and insurance expenses will be covered by the organisations, delegating young people from particular Prize Winning Towns.

4) Video cassettes with short recordings concerning the planned event with participation of young people, devoted to European integration should be sent to:
