At the meeting in Udine (Italy) on March 25th, 1984 the winning municipalities formed the Association of the Europe Prize Winning Towns, acting under the auspices of the Council of Europe. Its objective is to develop co-operation between particular towns, promote the European idea and to work for the solidarity and mutual understanding of nations. The Association may organise conferences, lectures, courses, seminars and meetings. The primary idea, however, is to encourage municipalities to invite each other's representatives to events organised in their towns and cities.
Special emphasis is put on the developments of contacts and mutual exchange of ideas among representatives of young generation. The head of the Association is its Chairman appointed every two years. Representatives of the winning towns meet at least twice a year: at a general meeting and at the presidium meeting. As a rule the general meeting is accompanied by a youth forum.
Each town or city appoints a person responsible for contacts with the Association and the person in charge of youth affairs.
